General Itinerary

 

MADRID

 

MONDAY

 

           Hotel Wellington

 

           Welcome dinner at the Goizeko Wellington Restaurant, the latest project of

           Jesus Santos, the renowned Basque restaurateur.  The cuisine is a wonderful

           experience of the New Basque Kitchen.

 

TUESDAY

 

           Hotel Wellington

 

           Guided, lectured visit to the Prado Museum concentrating on the Spanish masters:  El            Greco, Velazquez and Goya.  Then visit the lovely Royal Palace with a special visit to            the Armory and enjoy a walk through the old quarter of the city, Madrid de los                  Austrias, including the Plaza de Oriente, Plaza de la Villa and the Plaza Mayor.  Lunch            of roast baby lamb in the old quarter at either Casa Botin or the Posada de la Villa.             Roast lamb is the typical dish of the center of Spain, Old Castile.

 

           Enjoy a panoramic drive around the city, visit the Thyssen Museum, which was the

           private collection of the late Baron Thyssen, and return to the hotel.

 

           A private wine tasting evening. Taste wines from La Rioja, Ribera del Duero (Castilla y            Leon) and Galicia.

                     

WEDNESDAY
 
           Hotel Wellington
 

           Enjoy a half day cooking lesson.  It takes place in a private professional kitchen at the prestigious Alambique Cooking School, well located in the center of the old quarter.  Lunch of the prepared recipes will follow, including D.O. Rioja wine. 

 

           Your afternoon is free for sightseeing, shopping, exploration and adventure!

 

           Tapas dinner at Vista Bailen followed by a flamenco performance (optional) by the

          renowned Corral de la Moreria.
